Long before B’s kitchen was home to Black Bee Hot Sauce, it was home to hand-crafted meals made with love for friends and family. A natural in the kitchen, B has been cooking with heart—and organic herbs and vegetables from his garden—for decades. He’s passionate about getting people together to share the joy of flavor.
In 2021, he turned his focus from three-course meals for lucky guests to what makes any meal truly sing: the perfect dash of heat. Unable to find options with deep, multi-dimensional flavor, unexpected herb, fruit, and spice combinations, and the sweet vibe of a home-cooked experience, he made his own. Starting in his garden, he picked clusters of fresh herbs, simmered them with piquant vinegar, glassy wedges of onion, garlic, hand picked vine-ripened peppers, a few few secret spices, and Black Bee Hot Sauce was born.
A lifelong musician, B approaches each recipe like a composer, fluent in the fundamentals and also game to explore. The results are layered, flavorful, and surprising: in his first blend, the tropical sugars of pineapple and coconut marry with the earthy zing of ginger and the high-note heat of habanero to create a golden-hued hot sauce with complexity, balance, and tang you can’t find anywhere else.
Food is about so much more than sustenance. It’s about culture, togetherness, and delight. As a Black culinary entrepreneur, B blends his “heat you can eat” with a sense of connection to the many Black home-cooks and artists who came before him but didn’t have the chance to share their work with the world. And as a born-and-raised Californian, he keeps the energy in the kitchen mellow and light—every recipe benefits from laughter and good cheer. His mission is to bring his signature, garden-fresh, nothing-like-it flavor to happy eaters everywhere, one bottle at a time.
Starting a small business (especially as a minority business owner) is a labor of love. As B says, “The hurdles are real but we know they’re surmountable with hard work, ingenuity, and people who believe in the vision.” With Black Bee Hot Sauce, tasting is believing. After sampling the product, buyers for specialty markets have eagerly brought “heat you can eat” to their shelves, including Mollie Stones, Eureka Natural Foods and United Markets and the list continues to grow. These stores are only the beginning. Your support of this company is powerful and, like hot sauce on the perfect plate, can take something wonderful to the next level. We truly appreciate each and every customer and we humbly thank you for being a part of the Black Bee story!
